General Treatments
Child Dentistry
Dr. Phan focuses on prevention, early detection and treatment of dental conditions. It is her goal to education her young patients at an early age on dental health. We understand that going to the dentist can be frightening. We ensure that our pediatric patients are comfortable and are in good care.
Dental Fillings & Bonding
When a tooth has a decay, we remove the decay and restore the tooth with a white filling material that will match the natural tooth color. Resin onlays are bonded to the teeth creating a tight superior fit to the natural tooth. Although silver amalgams were the choice years ago, with new dental advances and technologies, our practice only use tooth colored restorations.
Root Canal Treatment
At the center of your tooth is pulp/ nerve. Trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks or repeated dental procedures can cause infection of the pulp. Symptoms of infection includes visible injury or swelling of the tooth, pain or intense sensitivity to temperature in the tooth. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, a root canal treatment may be required. The therapy involves local anesthesia. The infected pulp/ nerve will be removed, thoroughly cleaned and sealed.
After the root canal treatment is complete it is extremely important to get a porcelain crown to protect the tooth from further damage.
Crowns & Bridges
• Crowns
Where damage to the patient’s teeth is extreme and beyond repair, we can use porcelain crowns to make the smile appear as new. Benefits of dental crowns: offers support to badly broken teeth, natural look, fixes smiles and functional chewing problems.
• Bridges
A bridge (fixed partial denture) is a device used to replace missing teeth. It attaches artificial teeth to adjacent natural teeth. A bridge will be cemented permanently and can only be removed by a dentist. It is important that the patient cleans carefully under the bridge after eating.
Dentures & Partials
A denture is an appliance that is inserted in the mouth; replaces natural teeth to provides support for the cheeks and lips. Most dentures are made of acrylic and can be made two ways:
• Conventional dentures: are made after all teeth have been removed and tissues have healed.
• Immediate dentures: are made and inserted immediately after the teeth are extracted and the tissues will heal under the denture.
Immediate dentures are used as temporary dentures.
A partial is an appliance inserted in the mouth to replace missing teeth. The appliance use adjacent teeth as anchor. Most partial are made of acrylic, in combination of metal for strength. The partial can be removed by the patient and clean after each meal.
Peridiodontal Treatments
Periodontal disease is inflammation and infection of the ligaments and bones that support the teeth. Periodontal disease is involved with bacterial infection that colonizes deep under the gums, between the teeth that becomes difficult to remove. It is a progressive condition that leads to the destruction of connective tissue and bones that support our teeth. Without proper treatment the disease can lead to tooth loss. If you have periodontal disease, you may need some form of non-surgical periodontal treatments.
Patients who are smoker, have certain illness such as diabetes, older age are at high risk for periodontal disease.
Type of periodontal treatments:
• Non- surgical treatment for patients with periodontal disease
• a hand scaler/ curette to remove plaque and calculus at or below the gum line
Surgical periodontal treatment:
• Crown lengthening: reshape the gums and supporting tissue to be able to place a restoration properly.
• Bone grafting: Replacing bone tissue for successful placement of an implant.
